BELGIUM (Spanish Netherlands), Tournai. 2 Sols, 1709. NGC MS-61 BN.
KM-A6. Finest seen at the grading services by a 21 point margin. Siege coinage struck while the French were under attack by the Grand Alliance, in what turned out to be one of the bloodiest battles of the War of the Spanish Succession. Between both the French and their adversaries, nearly 10,000 casualties were sustained. The attack commenced on the night of July 7th, 1709 and concluded on September 3rd when the French finally surrendered after an impressive 69 days of resistance. An attractive medium blue sheen sits atop chocolate brown toned surfaces, uniface and well centered with the entire design on the flan. Historically significant and impeccably preserved, your chances of locating a finer specimen are almost non-existent. NGC MS-61 BN.
