Standing Marianne crowns Industry, Commerce, Science and Art at Exposition celebrating the country's triumphant revival from the after-effects of the Franco-Prussian War. Reverse: Flying cherubs unfurl ground plan of the expo, dignitaries listed begin with Marshal MacMahon, Duke of Magenta. In fitted maroon velvet-lined case gold-stamped EXPOSTION UNIVERSELLE INTERNATIONALE/ RF/ PARIS - 1878. The velvet inner lid is gold stamped MÉDAILLE COMMÉMORATIVE/ OFFERTE/ POUR/ SERVICES RENDUS. / Monsieur Anton GERSTNER / MEMBRE DE LA COMMISSION I. R. D'AUTRICHE-HONGRIE. The case had to be inscribed for this award, since the medal's design left no space for award inscription! Case is lightly worn, but complete and very presentable.
