FRANCE. 50th Anniversary of the Grands Magasins des Louvres Silver Medal, 1905. NEARLY MINT STATE.
51 mm; 63.07 gms. By Daniel Dupuis. Draped female figure seated right in clouds inscribing a large book as nude youth at right observes: Reverse: Laurel sprig at left with eight line inscription at right. The obverse design is from Dupuis ca. 1900 who passed in that year so the reverse design is not from him. Grands Magasins des Louvres was a department store, just north of the Louvre. It closed in 1974 and the building now houses Louvre des Antiquaries, probably the largest and finest antiques center in the world. In original gold stamped red leatherette case from "Mr. Pichard/ Gravates". Medium slate gray toned surfaces with slight variance in color on obverse. Free of any contact marks, clearly not removed from its case often. Rims are straight and sharp with only one very small and very shallow bump. Handling evidence is nearly imperceptible and only on the highest points. NEARLY MINT STATE.
