GERMANY. Saxony-Albertine Line. Taler, 1645-CR. Johann Georg I (1615-56). NGC MS-62.
KM-425; Dav-7612. Struck towards the end of the Thirty Years War, a conflict which was concluded for Saxony the very year this coin was struck. The end of the conflict was achieved after negotiations with Sweden as part of the Peace of Westphalia, also known as "The Peace of Exhaustion" by contemporaries of the day. A coin with direct links to the events of the day, and in splendid condition. With many examples of the issue today showing signs of cleaning or other impairment, the piece offered here is exceptional. Medium to dark tone evenly distributed, with sharp details seen all through the portrait. Well made and quite attractive. NGC MS-62.
