86.4 mm; 190.8 gms. V &T-333. Bust of the Cardinal right wearing cap and cope, legend IOAN CAROLVS CARD MEDICES around. Reverse: Ship sailing left, two stars in sky, two on the ship with legend VASTVM PRIVS AEQVOR ARANDVM above. Unsigned, but by Antonio Selvi (1679-1753). Once an Admiral in the Spanish Navy, Medici was appointed Cardinal by Pope Innocent X. This medal reflects both parts of his life. Slightly mottled dark brown patina on a defect-free planchet. EXTREMELY FINE.
