Cast Bronze Cosimo Serristori Medal, 1711. 89.7mm; 178.0 gms. By Massimiliano Soldani (1656-1740). Bust right in heavy coat with unkempt hair and disheveled beard. Legend COS SERRISTORI PATRITIVS FLORENT, and signed with a simple S below truncation. Reverse: Female figure holding a lamb, representing gentleness or meekness, but standing on discarded implements of war. Legend NEC FASCIBVS VLLIS ERIGITVR around, date 1711 below. Serristori became quite a wealthy man, but he was obsessed with Saint Filippo Neri, and would emulate him by wandering the streets of Florence in clerical robes. Also, despite being well educated in science and medicine he often chose to work in the simple trades as a carpenter, mason or blacksmith. Planchet with rough surface and some light contact marks. Dark brown patina with verdegris deposits, especially on the obverse. Possibly a slightly later casting. EXTREMELY FINE.
