ITALY. Florence. Cast Bronze Guiseppe Auerani Portrait Medal, 1721.
Bronze Joseph (Giuseppe) Averani Portrait Medal, 1721. 87.1 mm; 169.7 gms. V-T(MuseoBardini)-119. Robed bust right, IOSEPHVS AVERANIVS FLOR around. Reverse: THEMIS PARNASSIA above a temple housing three statues; Abundance, Knowledge, and Justice. To the left the Three Muses, with Pegasus above. Date 1721 in exergue. By Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi (1656-1740), but the work is unsigned. Joseph was the youngest of the three Averani Brothers, all celebrated on medals, and was a well known jurist, astronomer, theologist and naturalist. Dark brown patina with typically rough surfaces. Patches of light verdegris are noted on the obverse, and there is a tiny piercing at twelve o'clock. EXTREMELY FINE.
