44.5 mm; 46.9 gms. Bart-641; Lincoln-1059. Robed bust right, within heavy laurel wreath. Legend VRBANVS VIII PON XVIII MAX A XVIII around. Signed G M (Gasparro Morone) on truncation. Rev: Iron mining/refining scene with two smelters tending the ovens in the foreground while others mine the open pit in the distance. Legend FERRI FODINIS APERTIS above and MDCXXXXI ROME in exergue. The whole enclosed in a very heavy laurel wreath. A later striking. Deep chocolate brown patina throughout with the only evidence of handling on the high points of the reverse. EXTREMELY FINE.
