ITALY. Papal States. Piastra, Year XX (1643). Pope Urban VIII (1623-44). NGC VF-25.
Dav-4057; Muntoni-31; CNI-436; Berman-1710. Struck late in his papacy, by which time more than 80% of papal income was consumed in servicing debt. Plots to unseat him were being hatched by members of the Spanish faction of the College of Cardinals, with Urban VIII having become immensely unpopular with his subjects by the time of his death. Fully original with wear consistent with the grade. Well struck and lightly toned. NGC VF-25.
