ITALY. Tuscany. Cast Bronze Vittoria della Rovere de Medici Medal, ND.
By Antonio Selvi (1679-1753), not dated. 81.9 mm; 166.0 gms. V &T-332. Bust left with long veil joined at breast by cross. Legend VICTORIA ROBOR M D ETRVR around. Reverse: Pearl within oyster floating on the ocean. Legend DOS IN CANDORE above. Victoria (1622-1694) was Grand Duchess of Tuscany as the wife of Grand Duke Ferdinando II. The pearl on the reverse probably refers to the famous pearl "the size of a small pigeon's egg" her husband gave her for a wedding gift. The medal is unsigned, but it is a part of Antonio Selvi's (1679-1753) extensive series of Medals of the Medicis, V &T 241-354. A soft, rounded casting with appealing warm chocolate patina, and no defects of note. VERY FINE.

Estimate: $300.00- $400.00
