Reverse: EYPHKA (Eureka) above Minerva, holding wreath and drawings, and Mercury, holding torch and caduceus, who face each other on an eagle-supported platform upon which rest implements of academia; below, a plaque laveled INVENI. Dated AN MDCCXXXVIII, and signed in exergue. Multi-talented Grandi was a priest, philosopher, mathematician, and engineer (1671-1742). Tiny piercing, which looks quite fresh, at top. Three milimeters smaller than typical, perhaps a later casting. Deep brown patina, a bit lighter on the high points. EXTREMELY FINE.
