ITALY. Cast Bronze Margarette Louise d'Orleans Medal, ND, ca. 1740.
Medici Series Medal, Not Dated. 86.3 mm; 150.2 gms. V &T-341. Bust left in ornate dress and veil, legend MARGARITA ALOYSIA AVRELIAN M DVX ETR around. Reverse: legend CELESTIS ORIGO above a plant nourished by rain falling from a field of stars. Unsigned, but by Italian sculptor Antonio Selvi (1679-1753) as part of his extensive Medici series. The subject of this medal was Marguerite Louise d'Orléans who was Grand Duchess of Tuscany, as the wife of Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici. Meduium brown patina with a very noticable green coloration over the obverse. Small piercing at the top. EXTREMELY FINE.
