POLAND. Taler (8 Florins), 1702. Augustus II (1697-1733). PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, EF Details Secure Holder.
Dav-1613; KM-138. The year 1702 was a decidedly bad one for Augustus, his cousin Charles XII of Sweden invaded Poland eventually forcing Augustus from the Polish throne. The situation was not to improve much until the Russians under Peter The Great chased the Swedes out of Poland after the Battle of Poltava a few years later in 1709. A coin from a particularly tumultuous time in Polish history. Evidence of edge repair seen at 12 o'clock on the reverse, almost invisible from the obverse. Light bamboo color tone and generous amounts of remaining details in the devices and legends. A very scarce coin and highly desirable for its absence of wear in spite of the edge repair. Lightly gilt. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, EF Details Secure Holder.
Estimate: $600.00- $800.00
