RUSSIA. Gold Mine Ingot. 24 Dolyas (1/4 Zolotnik), ND (ca. 1885). Saint Petersburg Mint. Alexander III (1881-94). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder.
Bit-264; KM-1. Incorrect date on holder, coin is from the previous Tsar. Bitkin lists it as (R1). These were minted during the late 19th and early 20th century based on Russian law which provided that gold mines should receive back the silver recovered from their ore after refining. The silver was returned in circular ingots with various weights, and are not technically denominated. The pieces have often been erroneously described as Russian trade coins for use in Mongolia, China, and Turkestan. A wonderful example of the type, well struck and with pleasing tone. PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder.
Estimate: $300.00- $400.00
