Maximian (AD 286-305). AR imitative argenteus (19mm, 3.08 gm, 1h). Irregular or "barbarous" issue, ca. AD 294, imitating Rome. Laureate head of Maximian right / The four Tetrarchs sacrificing over tripod set before circuit of city walls with six turrets. Cf. RIC 40b and RSC 622g. A contemporary imitation, detectable only by the somewhat rough style of portraiture and sketchy reverse. Rare as such! Toned. NGC Choice XF 4/5 - 3/5.
