Byzantine weights. Ca. 5th-6th centuries AD. Bronze square weight of 3 ounces (80.52 gm). Uniface bronze square, 38mm, the obverse with incised image of two Romano-Byzantine emperors standing facing (Arcadius and Honorius?) in full armor, each holding spear and shield, small cross in circle between. Dark green patina with red earth encrustation (within incised lines, helping them to stand out). A large, impressive, and important weight! Extremely Fine.Acquired from Harlan J. Berk.
