Republic Type III Countermark 2 Reales ND (1845) Very Fine, San Jose mint, KM36. Base coin and countermark Very Fine. A Spain 2 Reales 1820 M-MJ initially countermarked in Cuba with the lattice punch (1841) and then countermarked with the Type III countermark in Costa Rica in 1845. A perhaps little known fact about this issue is that the female head on the latter punch is none other than Queen Victoria's. A very scarce twin-countermarked issue, certainly worthy of a nice premium as noted in the SCWC catalog and a fascinating proof of the commercial links bertween Costa Rica and Cuba in the mid. 19 sup th /sup Century.From the Pura Vida Collection, Part I
