Costa Rica
Tokens: Vulcanite Emissions and Other Strange Stuff, Atypical assemblage of 26 pieces of unusual composition or presentation. Eight vulcanite (specially hardened rubber) issues include a very appealing 21mm red sunface issue from Tres Rios' Mariano Montealegre and a curious five-piece set of Lorig & Tibaut indicating GERMANIA. Most unusual for any Latin American token is a "poker chip"- style "media cajuela" of Rodriquez Gonzalez Ltda possibly from Grecia, Alajuela. A canceled large-size "Oficina Lina" piece certainly seems more like a typical Chilean Nitrate token than anything issued in Costa Rica, but who knows? Others include Sociedad Alvarado Chacon portrait pieces in two denominations, one old-style and one-modern "Costa Rica Mint Co" pieces, four 19mm brass with national arms plus other data, three different varieties of ELISA CAFÉ brass, two USA Lincoln cents dated 1917 (one Philadelphia and one Denver) with J R deeply incused, regulation Ceiba 10 Centavos 1865 -72 style with R G C punched into shield, BELIZARIO FERNANDEZ boleta de café with "C" c/m on both sides and finally a seemingly-hollow 23mm brass "pickers counter" with a classic female helmeted bust figure on one side . Quality is typical for such issues and attributions cannot be guaranteed. Ex. Dana Roberts Collection. Sold as is, NO Return.
