Israel. Expulsion of Jews from Spain, State Gold Medal, 1992. 30 grams. 917 fine. 35 mm. 944 minted. Fifteen centuries of Jewish life came to an end when Spain expelled some 200,000 Jews in 1492. A map is shown illustrating the routes taken by the refugees and a typical sailing ship of the period. The reverse features a wall from the 14th century Shmuel Halevi Abulafia Synagogue of Toledo, with Kabbalistic spheres in the background and this verse below: "My heart longed for the courtyards of the Lord" in Hebrew. Accompanied with the same designed medal in silver, 50 mm. Lot of 2 medals. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated.
