KINGS of LYDIA. Period of Alyattes II to Kroisos, circa 610-550/46 BC. Trite (Electrum, 11mm, 4.70 g), Sardes. Head of lion to right, with open jaws and with a sun and rays on its forehead. Rev. Two incuse squares, one larger than the other. SNG von Aulock 2868-70. Weidauer 86-89. A sharp, clear and well-centered example. Good very fine.


An interesting coin of unusual style and very distinct hair - reminiscent of sunbeams - at the top and back of the lion's head.
