Nero, 54-68. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 35mm, 28.23 g 6), Rome, c. 62-68. NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GERM P M TR P IMP P P Laureate head of Nero to left. Rev. ADLOCVT COH (without S - C) Nero, togate and bare headed, standing left on low platform on right, raising his right hand in act of address and resting his left on side; behind him, praetorian prefect, togate and bare-headed, standing left also on platform; facing Nero are three soldiers, standing in single file right, all wearing parazonia; the two foremost carry standards. In near background is a building, showing two pillars, with sloping roof, and behind it, the wall of the praetorian camp, in crescent shape, with battlements. Banti & Simonetti 506 and 506/1 (same dies, Lugdunum). BMC 126 var. (differing obverse legend). Cohen 11 var. (differing obverse legend). RIC 133 var. (with S - C). Very rare variety. A beautiful example with a particularly detailed reverse and an impressive pedigree. Slightly rough obverse surface, otherwise, good very fine.
