Constantine I, 307/310-337. Plated quarter Follis (Bronze, 17mm, 1.60 g 11), Treveri, summer 307. FL VAL CONSTANTINVS N C Laureate and cuirassed bust of Constantine to right. Rev. V[O]/TIS / X within laurel wreath. RIC VI, 750. Flan crack and with some porosity, otherwise, fine.

These small module coins may have been issued to be thrown into the crowd by the emperors during public appearances such as victory parades, as is shown on some medallions of the time - f.e. Kent/Overbeck/Stylow/Hirmer, Die römische Münze, pl. 146, 693. Curiously enough, our specimen appears to have been silver plated at some point.
