Unfortunately, we are still unaware of the exact location where this coin was struck. Octodrachms with the same design bearing the legend ΒΙΣΑΛΤΩΝ can be clearly attributed to the Bisaltae tribe, located on the lower Strymon river near the Thracian people. This area had been annexed by Alexander I around 480 BC. The present type with the young hero wearing a Macedonian Petasos could indicate the early occupation of the Bisaltae territory by the Macedons.
