Man. Aquillius Fourée Denarius. Rome, 109-108 BC. Radiate head of Sol right, X (mark of value) below chin / Luna driving galloping biga right, holding reins in both hands; crescent moon and three stars above, one star and MN • AQVIL below; ROMA in exergue. Crawford 303/1; Sydenham 557; Kestner 2532-3; BMC 645-6; Aquillia 1. 3.54g, 22mm, 6h.

Silver corroded at centre of rev. and at nick in edge to reveal core, otherwise Extremely Fine, attractive toning over highly lustrous metal, hints of iridescence around the devices.

From the Eucharius Collection.

It appears that the banker's test punch that can be seen in the centre of the reverse to the left of the missing silver layer was successful in its task to reveal the plated nature of this coin.
