MESSENIA, Thuria. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ Assarion (21mm, 4.47 g, 5h). Struck circa AD 198-205. Laureate head right / Zeus standing left, holding eagle and scepter; Λ-A across field. Cf. BCD Peloponnesos 830.2 (Zeus extending arm and holding scepter; same obv. die); BCD Peloponnesos II –; BMC –; SNG Copenhagen –; NCP p. 65. Fine, dark brown patina, even roughness, pit on obverse. Rare.
