A Roman marble cinerary urn with lid.
1st-2nd century AD.
Square in form, the front carved in high relief, centered by a panel engraved with a eight-line dedicatory Latin inscription:
DIIS/ MANIBVS/ M(arci) ANTONI/ GEMELLI/ M(arcus) ANTONIVS/ PROCVLVS FILIVS/ PATRI BENE/MERENTI.
The inscription panel is flanked by sphinxes and eagles, a shell between dolphins and burning candlesticks beneath.
The gabled lid with with eagles holding wreaths acroteria, a tripod with lion's paws-shaped foot between two seated and confronting griffins in the pediment.
48 cm high.
