(x) Edward VI (1547-1553), third coinage, Sovereign of Twenty Shillings, 11.16g, m.m. y, edward vi d g agl fra z hib rex, crowned half-length figure of king right, holding orb and sword, rev. ihs avte tranci per mediv illor ibat, crowned shield with lion and griffin supporters, er below (cf. Schneider 690; N.1927; S.2450), creased, otherwise very fine, lightly toned, rare.

There are two mint marks for the third coinage gold issued at the Tower, tun, and letter Y. The letter Y probably refers to the Under Teasurer Sir John Yorke (just as the ostrich head mark used at Southwark is regarded as a punning allusion to the treasurer Sir Edmund Peckham). Of the two marks, the letter Y is much rarer that the tun.
