BRITISH COINS, Oxford mint, Threepence, 1644, mm. book on obv. only, obv. from an Aberystwyth die, rev. three small plumes above Declaration, date below, pellet at start of legend, 1.52g/12h (Morr. A-unpublished; SCBI Brooker –; N –; S –). Struck on a spread flan, nearly very fine, toned; the reverse die seemingly unpublished in the specialist references, extremely rare
£800-1,000

---

The obverse is struck from Morrieson's die A which is usually found combined with a 1644 reverse showing three lis above the Declaration and ox below the date. The present reverse has a large diagonal die-crack through the Declaration which might suggest it was of some age when this coin was struck, or alternatively the die failed soon after being brought into use
