The obverse is struck from Morrieson's die A which is usually found combined with a 1644 reverse showing three lis above the Declaration and ox below the date. The present reverse has a large diagonal die-crack through the Declaration which might suggest it was of some age when this coin was struck, or alternatively the die failed soon after being brought into use
