Chalcedony cylinder seal in modern gold mount. Neo-Assyrian, 8th-7th centuries BC. Winged bearded hero with arms outstretched, flanked by two sphinxes standing on hind legs, with wings extended. Height (exluding mount): 34mm. Large chip near top of seal, otherwise a fantastic specimen. Cf. BMC (Neo Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian) 354.
