A collection of seven terra cotta red ware fragments, many depicting venatio scenes. Roman North Africa, 4th-5th centuries AD. Pottery fragments of various sizes, ranging from 36x25mm to 123x88mm. One piece depicts a tabula ansata inscribed [D]OMNA VICTORIA in two lines. The remaining show scenes from a venatio, or staged hunt of wild animals by bestiarii. Venationes were frequently the morning prelude to an afternoon of gladitorial matches. A highly interesting group.
