CHINA. Pattern Dollar, Year 18 (1929). PCGS SP-64+ Secure Holder.
L&M-93; K-618; KM-Pn102; WS-0137; Wenchao-pg. 564#908 (rarity two stars); Shanghai Museum-Mr. Shi Jiagan's collection-pg. 130#605. Japanese design from the mint in Osaka. In 1929, the Chinese Ministry of Finance ordered a new design for the then proposed Dr. Sun Yat-sen Dollar. Patterns were submitted from five of the world's leading mints: Italy, Japan, England, United States and Austria. When composing his Catalog of Chinese Coins Eduard Kann reached out to the mint officials at the Osaka mint concerning this design type. Though the Osaka mint asserted it had no knowledge or involvement in this issue, Kann remains resolute in his association with this design and the Osaka mint. Lightly toned with abundant underlying luster and a very crisp strike from what must have been fresh dies. A chance to add this RARE pattern for an advanced collector possessing an eye for high quality. PCGS SP-64+ Secure Holder.
