L&M-95; K-616; KM-Pn100; WS-0139; Wenchao-pg. 565#910; Shanghai Museum-Mr. Shi Jiagan's collection-pg. 129#602. American design from the Philadelphia mint, but struck in China at the Hangchow mint. In 1929, the Chinese Ministry of Finance ordered a new design for the then proposed Dr. Sun Yat-sen Dollar. Patterns were submitted from the world's five leading mints: Italy, Japan, England, United States and Austria. Upon completion, the various mints shipped the dies as well as samples of the new patterns to China. The piece offered here has smooth exceptionally attractive surfaces with no marks or abrasions worthy of mention, the quality is remarkable for the assigned grade. A razor thin outline of dark tone accentuates the devices, and brings life to the portrait and reverse junk. Instantly recognizable as a specimen striking, the relief in the portrait and the sharp rigid notches in the denticles leave little doubt about the special status of this coin. If you are collector of pattern coinage from the era who insists on quality, this is the coin for you. PCGS SP-63 Secure Holder.
