CHINA. Fengtien. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), CD (1903). NGC MS-62.
L&M-483; K-251; Y-92; WS-0598. Manchu inscription reversed and reading "Fung-Boo". A straight graded piece at this level is quite an unusual occasion, the type is nearly always seen with problems of one sort or another. The piece offered here is one of only a dozen mint state examples seen at NGC and PCGS combined. Light clear tone subdues the luster without adding much coloration to the piece, while still retaining a distinct glow from the original surfaces. Evidence of clashed dies can be seen in the central portion of the reverse, revealing an incuse outline of the obverse dragon. No major marks or abrasions, and with a fairly decent strike, the initial impression left on the viewer is that of a coin of unmistakable superior quality. For the collector who has held-out for an original high grade example, this lot deserves serious consideration. NGC MS-62.
