CHINA. Li Hung Chang Silvered Bronze Medal, 1896. NGC MS-63.
40 mm. L&M-935; Wurzbach-5175. RARE. Struck to commemorate the state visit of Li Huang Chang (Li Hongzhang) to Hamburg. Li Huang Chang (15 February 1823 – 7 November 1901) was a Chinese politician, general and diplomat of the late Qing dynasty. He quelled several major rebellions and served in important positions within the Qing imperial court, including the Viceroy of Chihli Province. Struck in Germany, the medal features a well executed facing portrait, with the Hamburg coat of arms on the reverse. Very light clear iridescent tone graces both sides. Easily one of the finest examples extant, and a medal that combines both beauty and great historical significance. NGC MS-63.

Estimate: $8000.00- $10000.00
