CHINA. Two Piece Medal Set, 1981. Xinhai Revolution 70th Anniversary. NGC PROOF-63 ULTRA CAMEO.
cf.KM-51. RARE. Two piece gold and silver medal set commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the 1911 Revolution and the Birth of the Republic of China, 1911-1981. Gold: 24.94mm; 13.49gms; Silver: 30.22mm; 14.49gms. Both medals feature a facing bust of Sun Yat-sen, similar to the 1981 gold 400 Yuan struck in 1981 to commemorate the revolution (with a nearly identical portrait) which itself is quite scarce with a reported mintage of only 1,338. Both pieces are very conservatively graded, with faint evidence of handling but free of any major impairment. A trace of tone on the gold medal evenly distributed across the surface, with the silver piece displaying attractive deep color along the edges and with a brighter central portrait. This is the first set of these medals we have handled in over five years, and undoubtedly will draw significant interest as they cross the auction block. NGC PROOF-63 ULTRA CAMEO.
