CHINA. Yunnan Governor No Smoking Medal, ND (ca. 1920's). FINE.
48 mm. Barac-unlisted. Governor Tang Chi Yao warlord issued "NO SMOKING" medal issued in support of opium temperance, or abstinence from smoking opium. A rather remarkable award in that Tang Chi Yao was in large measure responsible for much of the opium trade dominating Yunnan. The attached ribbon is no doubt a replacement, with the black, white, blue, yellow and red stripped fabric bright and fresh. A SCARCE medal with much historical importance. Significant enamel deterioration with moderate to heavy wear. FINE.
