Antonia, mother of Claudius (died AD 37). AR denarius (20mm, 3.77 gm, 5h). Rome or Lugdunum, under Claudius, AD 41-42. ANTONIA AVGVSTA, draped bust of Antonia right, wreathed in grain-ears, hair in long queue behind / SACERDOS DIVI AVGVSTI, two vertical long torches, lighted and linked by garland. RIC (Claudius) 68. RSC 5. BN (Claudius) 18 (Lugdunum). Very rare! Perfectly centered on an exceptionally broad, round flan. NGC VF 5/5 - 4/5.Antonia, daughter of Mark Antony and Augustus' sister Octavia, survived until 37 AD, the first year of Caligula's reign. Her coinage was all struck posthumously by her son Claudius during the earlier years of his reign.
