Posumus, Gallo-Roman usurper (AD 260-269). BI antoninianus (21mm, 3.74 gm, 5h). Trier or Cologne, AD 268. POSTVMVS AV-G, radiate "heroic" bust of Postumus left, holding club over right shoulder, lion's head on left shoulder, strap across bare chest / IOVI STATORI, Jupiter standing left, head right, holding scepter and thunderbolt. RIC 310. RSC 160. Very rare bust type! A few scattered bits of verdigris, otherwise with a majestic bust and residual luster, likely the finest known specimen. NGC MS 3/5 - 4/5. The Cunetio Treasure, which contained 12,991 antoniniani of Postumus, included only nine with this attractive obverse type, depicting the emperor as Hercules. None of these have the IOVI STATORI reverse of the present example.
