Theodosius II (AD 402-450). AV solidus (21mm, 4.46 gm, 6h). Thessalonica, AD 438/9 (Tricennalia issue). D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius facing, head slightly right, holding spear over left shoulder and shield with horseman motif on right arm / VOT XXX MVLT XXXX, Constantinopolis seated left, holding globus cruciger and scepter; shield at her side, star in right field; TESOB in exergue. RIC X 366. Depeyrot 52/1 corr. (star to left). Very rare! A simply superb example, well struck from fresh dies and fully lustrous. NGC MS 4/5 - 5/5.
