Victoria gold "Shield - C/O" Sovereign 1879-S AU50 PCGS, Sydney mint, KM6, S-3855, McD-126a. An extremely rare variety, cataloged as "only two known" with a value in VF of 9500 AUD in the 19th edition of Australian Coins and Banknotes by Greg McDonald. Upon close inspection, the C in Victoria does indeed appear blundered and a small die crack running from the border only serves to highlight the issue. The surfaces, while showing moderate circulation, remain wholesome in appearance, with even wear on the raises surfaces and in the open fields, and remnants of original luster clinging around the peripheral devices. For the dedicated collector of Australian sovereigns, as elusive a variety as one is bound to find. From the Collinson Collection of Australian Sovereign PCGS Registry Sets
