Costa Rica
Republic 50 Centavos 1890-GW MS65 NGC, San Jose mint, KM124. Gem Mint State with full mint luster, nearly untouched surfaces, as expected for this lofty designation, and attractive blue golden patina typical for coins of this slightly debased (9 dineros = .750 fineness) type. Due to its lower fineness and extensive circulation, attractive examples of this otherwise common issue are quite challenging to locate, with true Mint State coins essentially unheard of: 5 such examples of all five dates combined are currently listed in NGC's census, the second finest being an MS63 coin. The finest known of the type to the cataloguer and the finest certified by two grades as noted. A true condition rarity in this superb quality, and a coin worthy of inclusion in the finest cabinet of coins of Costa Rica. Ex. Lissner Collection (CNG 8/2014, lot 1568 for $1,500).From the Pura Vida Collection, Part II
