Merovingian. Marseille - Patrician Nemfidius (ca. 700-710) Denier ND VF, 1.05g, MEC(1)-547, Depeyrot (NM)-27. Patrician's bust left, an N to the left / [+ NEMFIDIVS], a cross above a ligatured NE. Struck on a smallish flan leaving most of the reverse legend off-planchet, the central details on this rare offering are superb for the type, particularly the bust. Crude production methods resulted in most issues from this period being rather wretched, in contrast to this piece which is quite appealing and very rare thus.
