British India. Victoria Original Proof 1/2 Anna 1875-(C) PR65 Brown NGC, Calcutta mint, KM468, S&W-5.46. A rare date in both circulation strike and proof form, with a choice business strike, if it were to be put on the market today, almost certainly meriting a five-figure price tag, and proofs, of which certainly no more than five were originally made, being at least in that same category. The present example, perhaps the finest of those proofs extant (and the only certified), exhibits pinpoint detailing and smooth, glossy-brown surfaces. Inspection with a loupe reveals significant multicolored iridescence, only serving to generate more eye-appeal. As this coin has been several times in the past, destined again for the cabinet of a keen-eyed collector with a focus on coins that are not only rare in the absolute sense, but also have survived the test of time and remain in exceptional quality.
