British India. George V Original Proof Rupee 1911-(C) PR63 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM523. A wonderful example of this extremely rare, original striking of the 1911 Calcutta Mint rupee. Sharply struck, the surfaces reflect decades of careful storage, the fields retaining charming mirrored reflectivity, while the peripheries have added multicolored tone here and there that varies in its intensity. Close magnified inspection does reveal some of the light handling that defines the grade, but it remains a minimal hinderance to the unaided eye, and therefore qualifies this example as premium for the grade. For the collector of crown-sized issues, among the most important 20th century Indian coins, and given its extreme elusiveness, an opportunity that will without question elicit great enthusiasm with Indian specialists and crown-sized rarity collectors alike.Ex.
