Lucca. Elisa Bonaparte and Felice Baciocchi Medal 1805 AU, Bramsen-487 (R2). Commemorating the creation of the Academy of Lucca. Designed by G. A. Santarelli, 47 mm, 61.53 gm. Obv. Crowned and draped bust of Elisa and bare head of Felice facing one another. Rev. Legend within wreath. Deeply toned obverse, with a fairly lustrous reverse.A considerably rare issue. Only a few examples in bronze have crossed the auction block in the past decade, and just one in gold (NGSA 5, lot 777 = Nomisma 47, lot 927), more recently realizing a hammer of €15,000. A version in silver could not be found, though is mentioned as being R2 by Bramsen (the gold was mentioned as R4). Includes original green box of issue with clasp.
