Mantua. Carlo I Gonzaga 80 Sol (1627-37) MS61 NGC, KM116, Varesi-647/1. A very rare and popular type, featuring Vincenzo II Gonzaga in prayer and Mt. Olympus atop the coat-of-arms. Very difficult to encounter, especially with this level of detail remaining. For completeness, there is a 4 mm cut through the edge, some evidence of prior mounting, and a deep toning which hides some very old cleaning. Also includes a collector note in German from 1905.
Estimate: 1500-1800 USD
