Ferdinand VI gold 8 Escudos 1755/7 Mo-MM AU53 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM151 (unlisted overdate), cf. Onza-606 (unlisted overdate). From a fleeting series, this well-preserved overdate features lightly-toned golden surfaces that express a noticeable amount of mint bloom and limited high-point friction that ultimately defines the grade. According to the NGC census guide, this is currently the finest-known certified example of this unlisted overdate--the only other graded specimen of this type (AU50) came from the Rudman collection and hammered for $5,500 in our 2015 ANA sale. An intriguing rarity in all regards, and as such, deserving of much attention.
Estimate: 3000-4000 USD
