Republic Mint Error 8 Reales 1840 Ca-RG AU55 NGC, Chihuahua mint, KM377.2, DP-Ca11 ("Very rare"). Double Struck Error. Variety with a single dot after the date. A highly attractive coin, with scant high-point wear defining the designation, pleasant surface quality and strong mint luster under gorgeous and rich peach toning. Essentially a one-year subtype and very difficult to find with a decent strike (DP: "never well struck in the centers and usually has weakness in the legends"). The present specimen with a bold date and much detail around the eagle's breast - including a clearly visible snake - easily ranks as one of the very finest seen by the cataloger. Currently the single finest of two examples certified at either NGC or PCGS, very rare and most desirable in this quality.From the FoxLair Collection
