Republic Hookneck 8 Reales 1823 Mo-JM XF40 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM-A376.4, DP-Mo01. Variety with round top "3" and full "J" in assayer letter. A wholesome coin with even wear on the high points and the expected contained handling marks for the designation, a couple of light edge bumps also mentioned for accuracy's sake. In all probability the first issue of Republican 8 Reales and very rare with 6-7 confirmed examples by the cataloger (O'Harrow and Hubbard knew of but four examples), a most important issue that should elicit strong attention. One of only two examples currently certified by NGC or PCGS, none of which are in Mint State.From the FoxLair Collection
