Republic 8 Reales 1859 Pi-PS/MC AU55 NGC, San Luis Potosi mint, KM377.12, DP-Pi41 ("Extremely rare"). Well preserved with a touch of wear on the raised devices, per the grade, and mild handling marks over partially lustrous surfaces patinated with old green and golden hues. Currently the single certified example in the combined NGC-PCGS population report and among the finer examples of this very rare date seen by the cataloguer with only two public offerings of decidedly inferior examples noted in the past 5 years (Heritage Auctions 4/2015, lot 65362 for $1,100, a mildly corroded coin with AU details; Stack's Bowers & Ponterio 11/2011, lot 20591 for $1,800, a hairlined coin with AU details).From the FoxLair Collection
